EXPAND’s First Thursday Science, Theory and Practice Webinar: September 2022

Date/Time
Date(s) - 1 September 2022
18:00 - 19:00

Professor Jennifer Frankovich MD

Intended Audience: Medical and mental health clinicians, associated professionals, researchers, and students in related fields.

The EXPAND Scientific and Medical Advisory Board is pleased to host Dr. Jennifer Frankovich from the Stanford Immune Behavioral Health Clinic to present a case summary for the September event of the First Thursday Webinar Series.

Dr. Frankovich will present a case of a young man with severe PANS, POTS, central sleep apnea, and additional, fascinating autoimmune discoveries. His treatment involved a complicated immunosuppressive regimen, but the young man is now in remission.

In addition to presenting the case and answering participants’ questions, Dr. Frankovich will describe the Stanford Immune Behavioral Health Clinic, the first multi-disciplinary PANS clinic in the world: what it took to establish it, how it operates, and the difference it makes for the patient/family experience.

Jennifer Frankovich, MD MS is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at Stanford University. She is a rheumatologist with a primary research and clinical interest in the intersection between mental health and systemic inflammation. In addition to presenting the case and answering participants’ questions, Dr. Frankovich will discuss what it took to establish Stanford’s Immune Behavioral Health Clinic, how it operates, and the difference their multidisciplinary approach makes for the patient/family experience. Dr. Frankovich collaborates with 15+ basic science labs at Stanford and nationally to characterize the immunophenotypes of active PANS compared to remission samples and age/sex/ethnicity matched controls. The goal of this endeavor is to understand the immunological underpinnings which contribute to mental/behavioral health disturbances and to innovate effective multidisciplinary treatment regimens.
